The Australian High Commission, New Delhi, is seeking applications for the position of Resources, Energy and Tourism Research Officer.

The job description for the position is attached. Also attached are the selection criteria that the Interviewing Committee will use to assess applicants’ suitability for the position. Applicants must address each of the selection criteria. Subject to the successful completion of a three-month probationary period, the successful applicant will be offered a two-year contract of employment. The contract maybe extended subject to agreement between the employer and employee.

The commencing monthly salary is Rs 68,506.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The role of the Resources, Energy and Tourism Research Officer is to provide research and analytical support to the Resources, Energy and Tourism Counsellor at the Australian High Commission, New Delhi.

Duties include:

• With minimal supervision, carry out research and analysis and prepare ad hoc reports on news, data, and policy developments in India’s resources, energy and tourism sectors;

• Work closely with other government agencies at mission to progress engagement with industry, government and non-government organisations;

• Assist with official visits from Australia to India, and visits within India by the High Commissioner and other diplomatic staff;

• Maintain accurate records on changes in the Indian government and bureaucracy in the resources, energy and tourism sectors;

• Manage the accounts and budget of the RET Office including monitoring and maintaining accurate documentation of expenditure;

• Make appointments and various administrative tasks; and

• Other duties as assigned by Counsellor (RET).

SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Relevant tertiary qualifications;

2. Experience in carrying out research and analysis on a wide range of Indian energy and minerals related issues (experience in the resources/energy sectors desirable);

3. Strong English language skills, both written and spoken (Hindi language skills desirable);

4. A well-developed understanding of Indian bureaucratic structures and processes and a strong ability to liaise with government and industry representatives;

5. High level organisational skills;

6. Ability to use relevant office technology, including the Internet and computer software (particularly Word);

7. Ability to work flexibly, and take on multiple tasks in a team environment; and

8. Interest in and knowledge of Australia, including Australian foreign and trade policy approaches and objectives.
