VACANCY – REGIONAL EXECUTIVE OFFICER

The Australian High Commission, New Delhi is seeking a suitably qualified person to fill the position of Regional Executive Officer.

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) manages Australian visa and citizenship services throughout South Asia through the office of the Regional Director, South Asia, located at the Australian High Commission in New Delhi, India. The South Asia Region is responsible for delivering a wide range of temporary and permanent visa services, in addition to limited types of citizenship services in visa offices in New Delhi, Islamabad, Dhaka and Colombo and also oversees services to clients living in Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives.

The Regional Executive Officer (REO) position reports directly to the Minister-Counsellor/Regional Director who is based in New Delhi. The REO position is responsible for assisting the Regional Director in overseeing and managing DIAC’s regional budget and resources and administering, monitoring and reporting on all regional resource and asset management functions in line with Departmental standards.

The REO is also expected to support the Regional Director in work planning, performance reporting and service delivery improvement, including provide high-level advice to both the Regional Director and visa office managers to improve the efficient management of resources to ensure that Departmental objectives are met.

The successful applicant is expected to have sound judgement and initiative, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to provide informed advice to staff and stakeholders. They must have financial management and performance reporting experience, strong English language written and oral communication skills, sound information technology skills and the capacity to quickly become proficient in High Commission and Department of Immigration and Citizenship systems, programs and policies. The applicant will also have proven organisational abilities and successful workload management skills in order to deliver in a high-pressured environment of tight deadlines and competing priorities.

While the successful applicant must have fluent English language skills, proficiency in Hindi is highly desirable and proficiency in other Indian community languages is also desirable.

The successful applicant must be available to commence duty within one month of being advised of selection for the position.

 


Employment conditions

Subject to the satisfactory completion of a six-month probation period, the successful applicant will be contracted on an annual basis. The starting salary for the position is in the range of INR 87, 842 – 111,014 per month and is negotiable commensurate with the experience of the successful applicant. High Commission employees work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, and negotiated overtime during peak periods will be required. Benefits include 20 days annual recreation leave, medical insurance and a performance payment scheme.

Additional note for expatriate applicants

Only applicants who hold a valid visa with work rights or Person of Indian Origin status will be considered. Prospective applicants are responsible for checking their eligibility for visa and work permits before lodging an application.

Occupants of this position may be required to handle sensitive information. Applicants with a current Australian security clearance to Protected Level (or above) should state this in their application.

The REO position is a locally engaged position. Conditions of employment are set by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. No relocation costs or cost of living allowances are payable to successful applicants. A successful applicant who is living outside of India will be responsible for travel to India, accommodation and obtaining working visas in India. The Australian High Commission is unable to assist in this regard.

Selection criteria

• Sound knowledge or ability to quickly acquire knowledge of the Australian Public Sector environment and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship’s role and functions, with particular emphasis on the Department’s overseas network.

• A sound understanding of financial management, audit processes, business planning and performance reporting and a demonstrated ability in developing plans and related documentation.

• Highly developed interpersonal and written and oral communication skills. A strong command of the English language is required.

• Sound organisational skills, an ability to work under pressure, monitor workflows, set priorities and use sound judgement in decision-making.

• Demonstrated ability to work with a high level of independence, flexibility and trustworthiness.

• Demonstrated ability in the use of PC-based software including Word and Excel.

• Ability to obtain an Australian security clearance would be an advantage.
