VACANCY: SENIOR ADVISER

Applications are invited for the position of Australia India Education Council Secretariat at the Australian High Commission, New Delhi. The position is only open to expatriates.
On 8 April 2010, the Education Ministers of the Commonwealth of Australia and the Republic of India signed a Joint Ministerial Statement to reaffirm their commitment to continue to expand collaboration in education, training and research between Australia and India. The Statement includes the establishment of the Australia India Education Council (the AIEC), a bi-national body to improve collaboration on education related issues between the two nations. The establishment of the AIEC seeks to provide further impetus to Australia and India’s education collaboration through engagement and cooperation of representatives from academia, industry and government. AIEC will report directly to Australian and Indian Education Ministers.
The successful candidate will have responsibility for managing the AIEC Secretariat including liaison and coordination with the Government of India (principally the Ministry of Human Resources Development and Ministry of Labour and Employment), Universities Grants Commission and a range of other key Education stakeholders and overseeing implementation of the AIEC project plan. The Secretariat will be responsible for budgeting, forecasting and proper use of funds and will undertake responsibility for monitoring the progress of projects and will provide progress updates regularly.
The position will report to the Counsellor, Australian Education International located at Australian High Commission and the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations in Australia. This position requires Australian government security clearance.
Subject to the successful completion of a three-month probationary period, the successful applicant will be offered an initial one year contract of employment. This contract may later be extended, subject to agreement between the employer and the employee.
The salary for this position will be negotiated taking into account qualifications and experience. Australian High Commission staff work a 5-day week.

Job Description
• Liaise with key partner departments in the Government of India like Ministry of Human Resources Development, Ministry of Labour and Employment and other key education stakeholders.
• Implement, monitor, analyse and report the progress of projects under AIEC.
• Represent the Australian High Commission and AIEC at meetings, conferences and other events as required.
• Coordinate visits by Australian delegations to India and Indian delegations to Australia, including visits by ministers and senior officials.
• Maintain files and databases and perform other administrative duties.
Selection Criteria
1. Strong project management and implementation skills.
2. Strong communication skills, particularly in written and spoken English.
3. Strong interpersonal and representational skills, including networking and working well as a member of a team.
4. Experience in secretariat, administration and planning, including visit and event arrangements.
5. An understanding or demonstrated ability to learn, Australian Government Education policy is highly desirable.
6. Ability to use relevant office technology, including Microsoft Word and Excel and internet based search.
