The New Colombo Plan is a signature initiative of the Australian Government to lift knowledge of the Indo-Pacific in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduates to live, study and undertake internships in the region.

High Commissioner to India, Ms Harinder Sidhu, said New Colombo Plan Indian scholars are among Australia’s best and brightest youth and have demonstrated academic excellence, community engagement and a strong commitment to engaging with the people of India.

“I am delighted that the New Colombo Plan will deepen the bonds of friendship, understanding and opportunity between Australia and India through our 2017 scholars,” Ms Sidhu said.

“I am sure that our scholars’ experiences and the friendships and professional connections they make will shape them and Australia’s engagement with India for many years to come,” Ms Sidhu said.

The New Colombo Plan 2017 scholars will join the 890 New Colombo Plan students that received mobility grants to study and undertake work placements in India in 2017.

In its third year, India remains once again one of the most popular destinations for Australian students. For more information on the New Colombo Plan, visit www.dfat.gov.au/new-colombo-plan or follow @NewColomboPlan
