Australia to host first ever Film Showcase in Bhutan
Gear up for the first ever Australian Film Showcase in Bhutan! Presented by the Australian Government to mark the 15th anniversary of Australia-Bhutan bilateral relationship, a selection of Australian films will be screened at various cinemas in Thimphu from 23 to 26 November.
The Australian Ambassador to Bhutan, Ms Harinder Sidhu, will launch the film festival with the screening of internationally acclaimed Australian film ‘The Dressmaker’ on 23 November.
“Australia and Bhutan have enjoyed warm and friendly relations long before we established formal diplomatic relations in 2002. In fact, 2017 is a double anniversary, marking 55 years since Australia hosted its first Bhutanese students for the Colombo Plan in 1962.”
“We are bringing a diverse line-up of films as part of the Australian Film Showcase to give a taste of contemporary Australia to the people of Bhutan,” said Ms Sidhu.
With eight Australian films – including critically acclaimed ‘The Dressmaker’ and ‘Lion’, children’s features ‘Paper Planes’ and ‘Red Dog’, a powerful documentary ‘Spear’, thrillers ‘Swerve’ and ‘Mystery Road’, a cultural comedy ‘Red Dog True Blue’ - the festival has something to offer for everyone.
Entry is absolutely free, so bring along your friends and family.
