VACANCY: Program Officer – Media & Advocacy

The Australian High Commission invites applications for the above mentioned position. The job description is attached. Also attached is a list of the selection criteria which the Interviewing Committee will use to assess applicants’ suitability for the position. Applicants must address each of the selection criteria. Subject to the satisfactory completion of a three-month probationary period the successful applicant will be offered a two-year contract of employment. The contract may be extended subject to mutual agreement.
The commencing monthly salary is Rs 54,122. The package includes annual leave, limited medical reimbursements, Diwali bonus and provident fund provisions.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the First Secretary (Media) and Public Affairs Adviser:
- Assist with the Australian High Commission’s media engagement program, including writing and distributing press releases; arranging press conferences and media for Ministerial visits and arranging media coverage for public diplomacy events (30 per cent)
- Monitor and summarise reporting of Australian issues in Indian media and manage internal distribution of media summaries (20 per cent)
- Assist with managing High Commission public diplomacy events, including media seminars, roundtables, speaker and visit programs. Maintain a communications network with Indian think tanks and other stakeholders. (25 per cent)
- Research and draft documents (including speeches, press releases, correspondence) for publication and distribution. (10 per cent)
- Maintain a network and database of media contacts and section files and resources (5 per cent)
- Manage the High Commission’s website (10 per cent)
SELECTION CRITERIA
• Good understanding of the Indian media, drawing upon demonstrated experience working in, or dealing with, media
• Fluent spoken and written English, including the ability to write to a standard suitable for publication
• Good research skills, including the ability to synthesise and analyse material, and make sound judgements
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team, including flexibility in accepting or sharing tasks
• Ability to use relevant technologies, including the Internet, website management, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Word software
• Tertiary qualification, preferably relevant to working with the media
• Demonstrated administrative competence.
