Inauguration of Samvedna Disability Resource Centre in Uttarakhand

Inauguration of Samvedna Disability Resource Centre in Uttarakhand

Our economic counsellor, Dr Timothy Kendall inaugurated the Samvedna Disability Resource Centre in Dhana, Thatyur village in Uttarakhand. The centre provides early disability assessment and occupational and physio therapies to people from surrounding locations.

Our Direct Aid Program also supported the establishment of the centre and construction of a disability inclusive playground. Designed at the University of Melbourne, this playground will promote inclusivity among children and improve their participation and acceptance. Two more playgrounds will be built in Jharkhand and Dehradun by the end of the year. Training in the vocational skills of block printing and bag making is also available.

The Disability Resource Centre is an example of how India and Australia can collaborate to improve the health and wellbeing of people living with disabilities. It also aligns with the Indian Government’s ‘Accessible India’ policy which seeks to empower people with disabilities through social inclusion. Through our Direct Aid Program, we are working with communities and organisations on inclusive development under the #Development4All campaign.
