The Australian High Commission, New Delhi, is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Accounts Officer.

Subject to the successful completion of up to a six month probationary period, satisfactory medical check and background verification, the successful applicant will be offered a two-year contract of employment, inclusive of the probation period. The contract may be extended subject to agreement between the employer and employee.

The starting salary will be 45, 900 per month. AHC staff work a 5-day week. Benefits include annual leave, limited medical reimbursements, Diwali bonus, provident fund provisions and gratuity provisions when service length is sufficient.

About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)

The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.

The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government.  DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

About the Position

Working under the direction of the Account’s Manager, the Accounting Officer is responsible for undertaking a variety of accounting tasks, including recording revenue and expenditure, and providing general accounting support to the accounts team and stakeholders.

The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Enter financial data into the financial management and information systems.
  • Prepare and process payment vouchers. 
  • Maintain the advances register and ensure all advances are acquitted in accordance with financial policy.
  • Prepare duplicate cheques for lost, dishonoured and stale cheques.
  • Maintain and file records to document financial transactions, using the electronic record keeping system.
  • Assist in GST compilation and submission.
  • Maintain vendor master records
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience in financial management or accounting
  • Proficiency with Information Technology and a demonstrated ability to use software such as Microsoft Office and SAP (or similar) is required
  • Ability to work in a client-service environment

Selection Criteria

  1. Ability to understand and apply policy and procedures in accordance with Finance regulations and guidelines.
  2. Familiarity with SAP and other computer based accounting systems. Prepare reports in MS Excel and other MS Office applications.
  3. Ability to organize workloads, to set priorities and to meet deadlines.
  4. Ability to work and contribute effectively as a member of a team and in a client-service environment, and well-developed interpersonal skills.
  5. Prior relevant experience and a degree in Finance is desirable.
