The Australian High Commission, New Delhi is seeking a suitably qualified person to fill the position of Office Manager with the Immigration and Citizenship Section.

The Immigration and Citizenship Section of the Australian High Commission, New Delhi is Australia’s largest overseas visa processing office, responsible for delivering a wide range of temporary and permanent visa services, in addition to limited types of citizenship services.

The Office Manager position reports directly to the Counsellor/Principal Migration Officer (PMO) and is responsible for the overall day-to-day management of financial, human resource, office supplies, property, systems and maintenance issues for the office, which involves providing high-level advice to the PMO and liaising with other agencies within the High Commission. The occupant will also provide executive support to the PMO and is expected to represent the Section at senior levels within and outside the High Commission.

The successful applicant is expected to have sound judgement and initiative, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to provide informed advice to staff, clients and stakeholders. They must have financial management experience, strong English language written and oral communication skills, sound information technology skills and the capacity to quickly become proficient in High Commission and Department of Immigration and Citizenship systems, programs and policies. The applicant will also have proven organisational abilities and successful workload management skills in order to deliver in a high-pressured environment of tight deadlines and competing priorities.

While the successful applicant must have fluent English language skills, proficiency in Hindi is highly desirable and proficiency in other Indian community languages is also desirable.

The successful applicant must be available to commence duty within one month of being advised of selection for the position.

Employment conditions

Subject to the satisfactory completion of a six-month probation period, the successful applicant will be contracted on an annual basis. The starting salary for the position is in the range of INR 87, 842 – 111,014 per month and is negotiable commensurate with the experience of the successful applicant. High Commission employees work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, and negotiated overtime during peak periods will be required. Benefits include 20 days annual recreation leave, medical insurance and a performance payment scheme.

Selection criteria

• Sound knowledge or ability to quickly acquire knowledge of the Australian Public Sector environment and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship’s role and functions.

• Demonstrated ability in office management and in particular, experience in financial and personnel administration. An understanding of Australian Commonwealth financial and audit regulations and procedures is desirable.

• Highly developed interpersonal and written and oral communication skills. A strong command of the English language is required.

• Sound organisational skills, an ability to work under pressure, monitor workflows, set priorities and use sound judgement in decision-making.

• Demonstrated ability in the use of PC-based software including Word, Excel and SAP
