                                                                                    Celebrating Australian Alumni

To celebrate the invaluable contribution of Australian alumni to the Australia-India education relationship, Australian High Commissioner to India Ms Harinder Sidhu will host an event in New Delhi later today.

“Education is one of the most successful aspects of the Australia-India relationship. India is the second largest source of student enrolments in Australia. As of November 2017, 68,227 Indian students were studying in Australian institutions, which represents a growth of 14.65% over 2016,” Ms Sidhu said ahead of the event.

At the event, Ms Sidhu will present certificates to 18 high calibre Alumni Ambassadors who have been appointed to assist in promoting the prestigious Australian Government Scholarships - Endeavour Scholarships & Fellowships, and Australia Awards - across the South Asia region.

“This group of talented Australian Alumni will promote the scholarships to students at top universities and research institutions in India and the South Asian region over the next few months,” said Ms Sidhu.

In 2017, the Australian Department of Education appointed 18 eminent alumni of the Endeavour Scholarships & Fellowships, and Australia Awards, as program Ambassadors. Promotional activities by these Ambassadors has helped to reach the best and brightest students and has raised the profile of scholarships, reaching out to more than 300 prestigious higher education and research institutions.

Australia’s Senior Trade Commissioner Ms Leonie Muldoon will moderate a panel discussion at the event on “Empowering Career paths for Australian Alumni”, where representatives from Indian corporates - Tech Mahindra, Escorts Group and Essel Group - and Australian alumni in India will discuss pathways for greater career outcomes.
