The Australian High Commission, New Delhi, is seeking applications for the position of Program Manager – Development at the Australian High Commission, New Delhi.

Subject to the successful completion of up to a six month probationary period, satisfactory medical check and background verification, the successful applicant will be offered a two-year contract of employment, inclusive of the probation period. The contract may be extended subject to agreement between the employer and employee.

The commencing salary will be determined based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. The package will include annual leave, limited medical reimbursements, Diwali bonus, provident fund provisions and gratuity provisions when service length is sufficient. The position encompasses a starting salary of 101, 984 per month.

About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.

DFAT provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

About the Position

The position will report to the First Secretary – Development in New Delhi and work closely with the DFAT South Asia Regional Development Section in Canberra.  The position will build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, experts and development partners in the region.

The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing high level analysis, briefing and advice to senior High Commission staff on trade, infrastructure and regional connectivity matters;
  • Liaising with international development banks, governments, industry experts within South Asia;
  • Monitoring, analyzing and reporting on developments in South Asia’s infrastructure and trade sectors to senior officials at the Australian High Commission and DFAT in Canberra;
  • Representing the Australian High Commission and DFAT at meetings, conferences and other events as required;
  • Coordinating visits by Australian delegations and  delegations to Australia, including visits by ministers, senior officials and industry experts;
  • Providing input and assistance to other Posts and Departments on issues and projects relevant to the infrastructure, trade and regional connectivity sector;
  • Maintaining files and databases and performing other administrative duties.

Qualifications/Experience

  1. Completion of a graduate degree required.
  2. Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in a related field, or similar position.
  3. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Very strong ability to establish and maintain working-level contacts with counterparts.
  4. Ability to work as part of a team, and to take initiative and work with autonomy.

Selection Criteria

Please provide a response of no more than 500 words against each selection criterion.

  1. Experience in, or knowledge of, trade, infrastructure, regional connectivity and gender issues in South Asia, preferably in the development sector.
  2. Strong communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and representational skills, including building networks and working individually or as part of a team.
  3. Strong research and analytical skills and demonstrated ability to use these in a policy context.
  4. Experience in planning and administration, including facilitation of meetings, visits and events.
